Honoring A Hero
Maurice “Mo” Timothy Stadeli

Each year, the National Firefighters Foundation sponsors the tribute to all firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. Thanks to your support, the Salem Fire Foundation was able to send members of the Salem Fire Department Honor Guard and Principal Officers from Salem Firefighters Local 314 to Emmitsburg, Maryland, for a solemn and meaningful event: the final placement of Firefighter Paramedic Maurice “Mo” Stadeli’s name on the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
Mo’s career in the fire service spanned more than four decades, with over 25 years proudly spent serving the City of Salem. Throughout his time in Silverton, Woodburn, St. Paul, and Salem, Mo earned a reputation for his steady presence, deep compassion, and unwavering dedication to his team and community. He passed away in 2019 from occupational cancer—a loss felt deeply by all who knew him.
This national recognition marks the final step in honoring Mo’s sacrifice, completing a journey that has also included remembrance at the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, a state tribute at the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST), and a permanent memorial marker at Salem Fire Station 6—Mo’s final assignment.
Because of your generous contributions, Salem was there to stand with other departments from across the country, ensuring Mo was remembered with the respect he so rightfully earned.
Thank you for helping us preserve the legacy of a firefighter who gave so much to the communities he served. Mo will always be remembered as a dedicated public servant, a cherished colleague, and a true hometown hero.
